Job Description What you will do

In this role you will be building, supporting, operating and maintaining network solutions that conform to NZDF CIS architecture in support of NZDF strategic outcomes. 

We are seeking a person to fill the role of Network Engineer II on a one year fixed term basis.

What we need

This is a busy and challenging role where flexibility and adaptability to meet changing demands quickly are key to the role. You will be part of a dynamic and complex organisation that are relied on for the support provided to NZDF. So what will you need to bring?                       
  • A good understanding of Network Design principles
  • Proven understanding of switching and routing principles
  • Proven understanding of OSI network layering
  • Proven understanding of security devices/appliances
  • LAN and WAN connectivity
  • Strong problem assessment and diagnostic techniques
  • Competence in network protocols and principles   
Key to your success in this role will be your ability to communicate effectively across a diverse range of customers; one minute you may be assisting your team members, the next minute you may be supporting a senior manager. Within this role you will work with both civilian and military personnel. 
You will be joining a positive team who strive to achieve good outcomes and it is important you realise the value of team work and contribute fully. Key skills we are seeking in the role are Network + and/or CCNA equivalent qualifications matched with 1-3 years of industry network support experience as desirable for any candidates. 
The ‘homebase' for this position is RNZAF Ohakea, however there is a requirement to travel throughout the Central region.

Communications and Information Systems Branch (CIS Br) is an organisation that supports NZDF with everything to do with networks, communications, and information technology. Within CIS are our strategy organisation, delivery organisation, and our support organisation. CIS Br provide communications and technology excellence to sustain NZDF maritime, land and air operations enabling the Single Services to meet operational outputs now and into the future.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:
Higher level Security Clearance
  • most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last ten years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last ten years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.
    If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application
